OUR HUMBLE BEGINNING
“Lighting the Way by Carrying the Torch for others to Follow”
The National Association of Funeral Service Professionals, Inc. (NAFSPI) was created and founded in 2011 after its founder Kevin Mitchell and its first National President Anthony Bracy determined that while serving as leaders of another association the need existed for an organization that represented all aspects of funeral service.
Mr. Mitchell drafted the name of the association, the national constitution, bylaws, along with the national logo, motto (“Lighting the Way by Carrying the Torch for others to Follow”) and colors. With the desire to fast track the incorporation of NAFSPI Mitchell sought out a national partner to assist with the state and federal non-profit filings and articles incorporations. As the organization continued to grow and come into fruition the following individuals were solicited to serve as members of the initial Board of Directors, Tanika Webb-Desir who played a major role in the national filings, creating the logo from the sketch by Mr. Mitchell and serving in dual roles as national secretary and executive secretary to Mr. Mitchell. The following individuals were asked to serve as Board Members on the National Level and they accepted and became the init ial members of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Funeral Service Professionals, Inc. Carl Swann, Robert Bradley, Diane Simon, Lori Diaz, and Reverend Roderick Jenkins.
In 2012 Diane Simon became Interim President of the organization and various additional board members were added such as Gregory Broussard, Rozalyn Grady, Loretta Davis, Arlene Lawrence, and Reverend Aaron Shaw. After much hard work, dedication and determination the first lapel pin was designed and crafted. The need was determined to establish the build out of our organization by setting up States and Regional Districts across the country. The first Director of States and Regional Governors was Gregory Broussard, after his tenure this department was filled on an interim basis by both Sanmartino Battle and Reverend Aaron Shaw. In the later part of 2014 Reverend Shaw was selected by the Board of Directors to head up this department which also elevated him to serve on the National Board of Directors.
In 2014 the build out of the Executive Directors Department was done with Kevin Mitchell serving as the National Executive Director. In late 2014 the need for additional assistance and delegation of responsibilities of duties was achieved when Ms. Monica Gray was selected by Executive Director Mitchell to serve as the Assistant Executive Directors for Administration and Operations. Currently Tanika Webb-Desir heads up the Finance Department and serves as National Secretary. Reverend Anton James currently serves as advisor to the Executive Director and heads up the Information Technology Department.
Reverend Rodrick Jenkins serves as the First Chaplain for the organization. Mr. Robert Bradley currently serves as Sergeant at Arms. Our first Director of Public Relations was Lori Diaz, who assisted with our initial media interests, Board of Directors questionnaires interviews and oversight of our organizations visibility.
The National Association of Funeral Service Professionals, Inc., is to provide an opportunity for its members at the most economical cost and lessen the financial hardship in order that our colleagues may gain the latest in educational, technical, financial, and in spiritual support to the general body of this organization.
